Gooch gets some love
The other day, Columbia Daily Tribune football writer David Morrison did a list of the all time best mid Missouri kids to play for the Missouri Tigers. And on the list...at defensive tackle...from Jefferson City Missouri...The Gooch! Pat Mingucci.
A great choice! And great recognition for one of our all time favorite guys. Here's what Morrison had to say about Pat. In case you're wondering, Morrison had named Steve Martin of Jefferson City High as the other defensive tackle on his all-area team.
DL: Pat Mingucci (1997-2000), Jefferson City
Hey look. Another one. Mingucci followed right on Martin’s heels and totaled 88 tackles, 22 tackles for loss and six sacks in his time playing interior defensive line for the Tigers. He was a key contributor for the 1998 Insight.com Bowl winning team and his senior season in 2000, in which he logged 44 tackles, 12 for loss and two sacks, earned him second-team All-Big 12 honors from the league’s coaches. His exploits just so happened to get overshadowed by a certain other Jefferson City product that played on Missouri’s line at the same time.
Ummmm...could Morrison be refering to a certain defensive end who just finished a long and storeid career in the NFL. Yes...I think he could be.
Yep...Pat could play. I remember GOOOOOOOOOOOCH-ing from my seat in the south end zone many a Saturday afternoon and night. Anyway...just one more throwback pic of Gooch in one of my favorite uniform combinations. Congratulations Pat!
